PM Pacific #720 at Detroit, Michigan in October, 1939

 

Pere Marquette Class SP-3 Pacific #720 at the coaling tower at Detroit's 15th Street Yard in October,1939.

The PM's Pacifics were the backbone of its passenger-hauling fleet right up until the C&O merger in 1947. The dozen SP-3s were the PM's largest class of Pacifics. Number 720 was built by Alco in June, 1921 and served the PM and later the C&O until it was retired in December, 1949.
